Mao receives a banner with the text 毛主席万岁 伟犬的人民领袖 - Long live Chairman Mao, the great people's leader, and in small characters the names of all different nationalities. Mao is surrounded by representatives of National Minorities, Party leaders and  Pioneers bearing flowers. This must be Mao's meeting with representatives of the National Minorities on National Day, October 1, 1951, in the Huairen Hall (怀仁堂) in Zhongnanhai, the government's leadership compound in Beijing. This was also the subject of the New Year picture Family of Nationalities (民族大家庭) by Feng Zhen (冯真) and Li Qi (李琦).
