Sun Yat-sen died on 12 March 1925 in Beijing. His coffin was entombed on 1 June 1929 in a massive marble mausoleum constructed at the foot of Purple Mountain in Nanjing, at that time the capital of the Republic of China. This image closely follows widely published photographs of the ceremony.
Left and right of the Guomindang emblem (with the poster's title) are calligraphies by different artists, the calligraphy in the image (總理奉安大典 - The premier's funeral ceremony) is by Yu Youren (于右任), a high Guomindang official and famous calligrapher.
