Zhang Leping (张乐平)

zhanglepingZhang Leping (1910-1992) was born in Haijian, Zhejiang Province. In 1934, he started drawing cartoons. Zhang joined Ye Qianyu and others in 1937 in the Cartoon Propaganda Corps, to support the struggle against the Japanese occupation. In the 1950s, he worked for the Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House, the Shanghai-based Liberation Daily [解放日报] and the Shanghai Youth and Children's Publishing House.

Zhang was known for his cartoons and comic strips, which included the famous San Mao [三毛]. In 1974, he collaborated on the design of the poster 'Hello uncles from the People's Liberation Army' with Li Mubai and Jin Xuechen.
